7th Grade Technology 

  

In this course, students will examine the universal systems model, how systems work, and how systems interact with one another. Students will get the opportunity to analyze the design of systems and interpret design diagrams to assemble and disassemble systems to the component level. Project-based learning activities include mousetrap-powered race cars, model rockets, designing and building model homes, and creating technological solutions to real-world problems. Students will get the opportunity to develop teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills through engineering and design activities.

 

 

Course Learning Modules

 

1st Nine Weeks

  • How Technological Systems Work

  • Design & Development of Technological Systems

 

2nd Nine Weeks

  • System Functions and Processes

  • System Troubleshooting

  • Technological Issues and Impacts

Learning modules include the following topic areas:

  • Social, Cultural, Economic, and Environmental Impact of Technology

  • Energy, Power, and Transportation Systems

  • Structural Systems

  • Tools, Machines, and Manufacturing Systems

  • System Interaction

  • Computer-Aided Design

  • Product Development, Marketing, and Advertising

Learning Management

​

• We will be using Canvas for our learning management system now instead of Google Classroom.

​

Canvas will be the central location for instructional materials,  assignments, assessments, and resources.

​

• Students will be automatically added to Canvas.

​

• Students can access Canvas through their Wake Portal account.

 

 

Assignments & Grading

​

Assignments will be posted on Canvas under the topic for that week.

​

• Students should check Canvas for lesson resources and assignments if they miss a class.

​

• When late work is submitted, students should send me an email with the assignment name, so I can grade the

   assignment and update PowerSchool in a timely manner. PHMS Late Work policy will be followed for time given to

   submit late work.

 

• Students will be evaluated through various types of assignments including classwork, labs, quizzes, tests, and

   projects.

 

  50% of Grade - Minors (Classwork, Labs, Quizzes)

  50% of Grade - Majors (Tests, Projects).

Class Expectations

 

Each student is expected to follow the Four Be’s Policy in class.

​

  1. Be safe.

  2. Be on time to class.

  3. Be prepared for class (WCPSS Chromebook, spiral notebook, pencils, etc).

  4. Be respectful of others and their property.
